The history of Presidio La Bahia, Texas’ only fully restored Spanish presidio, is brought to life every Wednesday during the months of June and July. Visit with historians as they bring the past to life and explore little-known stories from the Presidio’s early days. Learn about the daily life of a presidial trooper stationed on the frontier of Spanish Texas. Explore the stone walls and battlements of the old presidio and duck inside for a look at the museum and collection of artifacts from the 1700 and 1800s.

Fiesta Noche del Rio

The oldest outdoor dance performance of its kind in the United States, Fiesta Noche del Rio, Spanish for “Party Night on the River,” is a musical variety show of authentic Mexican, Spanish, and Texas songs and dances performed by local professionals. San Antonio’s annual iconic cultural performance, full of colorfully costumed dancers and rich, lush sounds, brings to life the deep roots that make San Antonio a special place for love and life. The audience is seated on tiered grass seats across the river from the stage, located in La Villita, the Little Spanish Village of the city.

The city of Edinburg and the Edinburg Juneteenth Jubilee Committee invite travelers to this annual Juneteenth celebration, an event showcasing the rich Black heritage of the Rio Grande Valley. Along with commemorating the holiday, festivities include musical performances, arts and crafts vendors, and food vendors.

Celebrating its 20th year, this festival transforms an arena into an indoor mercado featuring artisans from all over Mexico selling a variety of native products including leather goods, home décor, jewelry, clothing, food and candies.

This festival that honors renowned Mexican artist Frida Kahlo as well as the spirit of perseverance and empowerment. FridaFest features live art demonstrations and performances, Frida’s zoo and animal exhibit, and a number of children’s activities. The festival also includes the Frida Look-A-Like Contest which takes place in the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium. The evening is capped off by a concert that will have the whole family dancing.

The city of Weslaco hosts Alfresco Weslaco in historic downtown Weslaco every third Thursday of the month starting in August and ending in February. Experience music and art on the street with 80 to 90 vendors, businesses staying open late, and visitors being able to savor the experience of sipping favorite drinks right on the street.
