Oil spill closes Galveston-Bolivar Ferry

Written by , published March 24, 2014

The Galveston-Bolivar ferry remains closed Monday morning as a result of an oil spill in Galveston Bay. The Texas Department of Transportation, which runs the ferry, says the U.S. Coast Guard requested that ferry service be suspended in the aftermath of the Saturday afternoon spill.

Here's more from a TxDOT news release:

"TxDOT is working closely with the United States Coast Guard, Galveston Office of Emergency Management, Texas City Office of Emergency Management, and other state and local responding agencies.

"Motorists expecting to use the ferry services this evening and tomorrow should stay updated on the situation and be prepared with alternate plans.

"The public can contact the Ferry Office for status updates at (409) 795-2230. Updates will also be posted to Facebook.com/TxDOT and the Twitter accounts: @TxDOT, @GalvestonFerry and @TxDOTHoustonPIO."
