As the nation honors those who have died in military service on Memorial Day, dozens of events pop up this weekend to celebrate freedom and the unofficial start of the summer season.
One of the biggest events each year takes place in The Woodlands, just outside of Houston, where there are fireworks, live music and lots of activities each night on May 24-25 in Town Green Park. And near Fort Worth, Granbury’s hometown Memorial Day celebration fills its historic downtown square with arts, crafts and entertainment from May 24-26.
Several communities take full advantage of the long weekend to throw their biggest bashes of the year. Kerrville turns up the heat with three different events: the start of the Kerrville Folk Festival, the Texas Hill Country Wine and Brew Festival and an arts-and-crafts show at the Y.O. Ranch. And in nearby Bandera, a pro rodeo and arts-and-crafts show offer ample reason for a visit.
