This Mother's Day weekend, whatever mom wants to do wins. But perhaps she'd like to enjoy a Texoma twist on Cajun in Wichita Falls, see the world's largest bit and spur show in Abilene, or eat more crabs than she can shake a claw at in Crystal Beach.

Find more exciting things to do using the Texas Highways Events Calendar database.

Western Heritage Classic

Abilene: May 11-14
Settle in for a parade, the world's largest bit and spur show, western art, a chuckwagon cookoff, a ranch rodeo, nightly dances, America's working ranch horse competition, and children's rodeo events at Taylor County Expo Center. It's Western fun for the whole family, all to preserve the heritage of the ranch cowboy.

Frontier Forts Day

Fort Worth: May 12-13
The Stockyards National Historic District is transformed into an authentic representation of Texas frontier life.

Sam Houston Folk Festival

Huntsville: May 12-14
The Sam Houston Memorial Grounds will be transformed from a peaceful setting into a bustling frontier settlement for the 30th annual festival. Listen to live music, shop for crafts, watch historical reenactments, or stroll the museum grounds, all to get a taste of what life may have been like for Sam and Margaret Houston and their children.

Wines and Vines Festival

Lubbock: May 12-13
Enjoy Texas wines with live music, food trucks, and vendors at McPherson Cellars.

Texas Crab Festival

Crystal Beach: May 12-14
Enjoy booth after booth of fresh local seafood dishes and crab creations at this annual favorite in Gregory Park, where family entertainment includes music from a lineup of Gulf Coast favorites, a crab gumbo cookoff, rides, contests, coastal arts and crafts, and more.

Maypole Festival

Beaumont: May 13
An annual blessing of the crops and celebration of the arts for young and old alike, where visitors can stroll through the Beaumont Botanical Gardens with mystical fairies and shop local art vendors. Bring a picnic or visit Dat Mac Food Truck while you enjoy the live entertainment. Children's activities include carnival games, face painting, and feeding the giant koi in the outdoor fish pond.

A Southern Garden Party

Richmond: May 13
Enjoy a delightful spring afternoon at Fort Bend Museum, complete with signature cocktails, music, house tours, and big floppy hats.

Untapped Dallas 2545 2

Index Festival

Austin: May 13
Formerly known as Untapped Festival, this all-ages-welcome event will bring stellar celebrations of beer, music, food, and arts to the Austin American-Statesman parking lot. (The next day—Mother's Day—the same parking lot will host tacos and lucha libre wrestling at the inaugural Taco Libre Austin.) The rebranded festival series continues this year in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.

Cajun Fest

Wichita Falls: May 13
Enjoy a Texoma twist on Cajun at this annual festival. Find your old Mardi Gras beads, search for your craziest hats and Cajun attire, and then head downtown to shop, eat, play, and dance.

Dulcimer Festival

Glen Rose: May 13-14
The unique sounds of the dulcimer—an Appalachian fretted string instrument—will fill your heart with happiness in Oakdale Park.
