Deviled eggs may be the perfect party food. Portable, protein-packed, inexpensive, pretty, and easy to make, these little nuggets of deliciousness can stand up to myriad flavor combinations, from basic (mayo, mustard, pickle relish) to exotic (cream, truffle oil, pink peppercorns).

Pumpkin pie can hold its own (and it's one of my all-time favorites), but this pumpkin flan is the pie's more delicate and moist cousin.

Founded in 1918 by Miguel “Mike” Martinez, El Fenix is the oldest Mexican restaurant chain in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. El Fenix’s guacamole is extremely rich; you can use it as a dip, but it makes a stupendous salad. Several easier variations from other restaurants follow.

If you're thinking about "going Dutch," your first step will be to find an oven. A high-quality, 10-inch Dutch oven typically costs around $40.
