At the Texas Capitol Visitors Center, On the Run: Currency, Credit and Capitals of the Republic of Texas illuminates the turbulent financials of the fledgling Texas government.
The exhibit brings together more than 80 original money-related documents, most owned by private collectors. See the Texas provisional government’s very first payment voucher—$100 reimbursement issued to Gonzales in November 1835 for volunteer army expenses; and a presidential paycheck issued to Sam Houston—$500 for the third quarter of 1842. Opens February 1 to June 22. www.texascapitolvisitorscenter.com
