Go Spurs! The celebration continues for the champions with a parade and ceremony on Wednesday, June 18.
For the fifth time since 1999, the San Antonio Spurs have given their city another NBA Championship and another reason to celebrate … and celebrate, they will.
The City of San Antonio hosts a river parade that kicks off at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, June 18) followed by a 9 p.m. special ceremony at the Alamodome.
“The City is proud of our Spurs,” says Mayor Julián Castro. “This fifth championship cements the Spurs’ legacy as one of the greatest sports franchises in history.”
The NBA champions will traverse the river on barges beginning at the Arneson River Theater, through the River Center Extension, passed the Convention Center and Rivercenter Mall before ending at the Navarro Street Bridge. Barges also will carry city and county officials and live music.
Fans can begin lining the parade route at 4 p.m. No coolers, glass containers, chairs, packages, Silly String and more are restricted for security reasons. The Arneson River Theater is accessible only for those with credentials.
Fans also may begin filling the Alamodome beginning at 4:30 p.m. for the 9 p.m. ceremony featuring the players, coaches and the shiny championship trophy. No tickets are needed for this free event, and the parade will be broadcast live.
For those unable to attend the events, the party will be broadcast live on local television networks and also webcast on NBA.com.
