Your mention of flash was interesting. All the flashes in the stands of a large stadium amaze me. It is doubtful any of the cameras have enough strength to reach the event. The people are illuminating the rows in front of them . . . Perhaps they would be happier with a tripod or a solid surface and time exposure to get the picture - - - probably of action.
In addition, flash can be unique. When using a film camera, mounted on a tripod, I decided to take one picture with flash & one without. The cave lights are incadescent. The result - the processor had little option: part of the picture was blue and the other was colored for the flash.
