Essentials: On Stage!

The Houston Theater District occupies the northern end of downtown Houston. Nine performing arts groups stage performances in four major halls an easy walk apart: Hobby Center (800 Bagby St.), Wortham Center (501 Texas Ave.), Jones Hall for the Performing Arts (615 Louisiana St.), and Alley Theatre (615 Texas Ave.).

In addition, Bayou Place entertainment complex (500 Texas Ave.) houses the Verizon Wireless Theater and the Angelika Film Center (see below for details). For schedules, ticket information, and details about the district’s restaurants and nightspots, call the Houston Downtown Alliance (713/658-8938; www.houstontheaterdistrict.org).
