Henry Smith Day

Brazoria was home to many Texas heroes. During the Texas Centennial the town decided to erect a statue to honor Henry Smith who moved to Brazoria in 1827. In November of 1835, a provisional government was set up and Henry Smith was elected governor. After Texas achieved independence, Henry Smith became the first Secretary of Treasury of the Republic of Texas. The center honors Henry Smith on his birthday each year with the Brazoria Historical Militia firing shots, as well as music and refreshments.
