Visit the historic archeological site formerly owned by Maj. Abner Jackson, the namesake of the city of Lake Jackson. Once a prosperous sugar plantation, the site was destroyed by the hurricane that devastated Galveston in 1900. Learn about the sugar-making process of the 1840s and how convict labor replaced slave labor during the 1870s.

The 39th annual Parker County Peach Festival, held in historic downtown Weatherford, invites visitors to indulge in peachy treats including homemade peach ice cream, peach cobbler, peach pie, peach tea, peach smoothies, ice cream topped with fresh peaches, or just plain ol’ juicy peaches. There’s nonstop entertainment and activities for the entire family with a food competition, vendors and store specials, and two stages featuring local talent. Around 2,200 cyclists participate in the Peach Pedal Bike Ride as well.

The festival also includes the Frida Look-A-Like Contest which takes place in the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium. The evening is capped off by a concert that will have the whole family dancing.
